My son attended UTI in Houston. He was an Army veteran and had the GI Bill. The financial aid people insisted that he couldn't complete the program (basic automotive) without loans. They required my wife and me to co-sign even though he was independent and had a job. Now, five years after he graduated, he is back in the Army because he couldn't make a living in a Jaguar dealership shop and his loans have doubled because he is not paying them on-time.

The worst thing about what these people do is that they rope parents in as "co-borrowers." Now my wife and I are on the hook with Sallie Mae for thousands of dollars that did not benefit our son, much less us. The school lied to him and he passed the lie on to us. Now we suffer.

What these people do is fraudulent and they should stop preying on people. But as long as their advertising works and there are people out ther who want to make a living working with their hands, I guess they'll continue to be in business.

As someone who has a degree from an actual university, let me tell everyone who is considering UTI, use the money at a community college. You'll be happier, better educated and still have some money in your pocket.

I'm currently a student and as far as I can see, your son is probably a terrible technician. And that's just the truth of the matter. Also, he probably didn't receive any ASE certifications while he was in so he didn't make very good money.

Mmi is truly the worst decision i had every made Dont let them build up your hope with false truth an pull you away from your own expectations they are lieing to you the day thier rep calls you !!! So consider this advice.

They say hands on. Bs. The first 6 weeks is nothing but 8 hour boreing classes listening to what the instructer did to be thier.

Dont forget you have to write everything they say to the letter everyday Look take it from me i was thier im a hands on right off the bat type person thier is another school in daytona that is hands on but check things out before any decision you make. Two thumbs down to mmi

for whoever wrote number 3. you can say blahblah all day long and than justify talking down to a military veteran.

if your husband is so BA as you claim than instead of teaching why doesnt he enlist, or is he scared. you run your mouth talking smack about my fellow soldiers, seaman and airman but we have been shot at just so you have freedoms to talk disrespectful. your husband has probably never done anything like what the veteran did. to call a service member lazy really shows how ignorant and mentally challenged you are.

show some respect to the people who keep you safe. your husband is the one who has never made a difference in this world.

Blah, blah blah, you all are pathetic. You think that once you graduate you are going to get paid top dollar for working as a wrencher????

WRONG!!! You have to work your way up, and, and for the mother of the GI It's his fault he is paying double..He's NOT PAYING HIS LOANS.... My husband is a great instructor at UTI and has been 9 years. He wrenched for many, many years to prove himself, and wrote service for many years.

See you have to apply yourself, you all are lazy and want to make excuses and blame everyone for no accomplishments in life. You have to LOVE what you do, He has the passion to teach all you little brats who are spoiled by their parents, and who have no respect for your elders. But he stays for the love of watching the students who want it bad enough, and who WANT to be their to succeed. We have had students get jobs on the oil rigs in Texas off the gulf making ALOT of money from the Diesel Industrial, because they have the drive and passion to become something other than a thug with droopy drawers.

So before you start blaming others for your misfortunes, take a look in the mirror and really ask yourself...AM I DOING everything I can to be the best of the best!! NOT!!!!

First of all for you guys in the military, the GI bill will NOT pay your tuition to any private institution, instead you will receive a monthly check from the VA you will get roughly about 900-1000 dollars from this. Second, you are still considered a dependent for financial aid purposes until you reach the age of 24, so your parents still have to get a loan in order for you to be able to attend any private institution.

Third you reap what you sow... About 1/3 of the student population just got out of high school, and all they do is complain all the time and don't pay attention, I have seen these guys go into the field and either get fired or will never move up from being alube tech or lot porter.

Then again I have seen students that are there to learn and try hard. I know of a couple that are making +50k because they put in the effort, NOT knowing anything about cars except how to fill them up with gas...most of the people I've seen either drop out or just complain are the ones that never get far in life

not only the financial UTI is a scam i was for 5 month and quit because when you graduate you know nothing about mechanics, and the best you can get is changing oil at walmart with a debt of $30.000 they don't teach you how to really fix a carr, only theory and garbage.

I graduated from the Houston campus in 2006. I got a decent job at a natural gas plant paying $16/hr.

But I would of rather went to a local community college. I am in for 25K in loans and not one thing to show for it.

The teachers back then were smart and it is possible to grow after graduating but there are better schools, plus I didnt technally get a degree. Thats my 2 cents.

Good Afternoon,

I went to UTI and graduated in 2005. First, I'm in the Army so to the the consumer who's son is in the Army, he needs to call Sallie Mae and tell them he is active duty and they will defer the loan because of his military status.

Second the G.I. Bill should have paid for his schooling, I'm in Law School and its way more than that. My cousin went to UTI on the G.I. Bill and didn't have to take out any loans or deal with sallie mae at all.

Third, for the C*&^ S!@#$% that made the comment about reading what you sign, that comment was uncalled for and remember that when you sign your life away. From your sentense structure and wording you probably will read what you are signing and still get F!@#$%^.

The bottom line is that I learned a lot but I only use what I learned around the house for my 2 ol'schools, for friends who need my help diagnosing a problem, or simply shootin the *** with fellow alumni. The best skill I aquired from UTI would be the ability to spot a lemon from a mile away blind folded, but nothing I can make any real money from.

Just got off the phone with the liar. My son, husband and I all heard the same thing about the registration fee being refundable.

He claims that he told us that you have to tour the college first. We were offered a tour but never told that it was a requirement if you changed your mind about attending. So I'm going to spend a couple hundred flying to FL to get my $75.00 back?

I'm so glad I found this website and the reviews on BBB website! So happy that he has chosen not to go to this school!!!

The recruiter that came out to our house, Bill Whitman, was a liar, plain and simple! He came to our house and had us pay the $75.00 registration fee.

When we hesitated paying it on the spot, he assured us that it was 100% refundable if we gave him advanced notice that our son was not going to attend. We wrote the check three weeks ago and the program doesn't start until August. When our son changed his mind and asked for the registration fee he was told that we have to visit the campus in Orlando to get our money back.

We live in Ohio!

At least we only lost $75.00 as opposed to 30k!
