Universal Technical Institute - I have the opportunity to work on vehicles that other techs in the shop can’t
Growing up I was always surrounded by family and friends fixing up cars. They quickly became a passion of mine and I got my first job working in a parts shop.
While I was now immersed in an industry I loved, I still lacked the knowledge and education to actually understand how to use the correct tools to repair the car. It was this fascination and curiosity which ultimately led to my enrollment at UTIs Exton campus in order to gain the skills necessary to fill this void. I decided to take a leap of faith and signed up for a campus tour. The very next day I enrolled.
UTIs schedule is very demanding but I appreciate that it allowed for opportunities to work at the same time in order to gain industry experience. Balancing both was tough but knowing now what the end result turned out to be, it was well worth it. At first it was intimidating to be entering an industry that is very much male- and age-dominated but all I needed was someone to give me a chance. My instructors at UTI did that as did my [now current] boss at Team Toyota.
So much of the knowledge, skills and experience I gained while at UTI have helped me to solve tasks and challenges Im faced with on the job every day. Im so thankful to have landed a long-term, rewarding career one that I work to build upon every day.
I give 110% every time I show up and I thank UTI for instilling this sense of professionalism in me. Im the only one in my shop right now who has hybrid certification and in another year I will be a Master Tech for Toyota.
