I attended UTI (Houston) right out of high school.I graduated in 1987 with the associate's degree in Auto and Diesel Technology.
Even with their placement help, it took about nine months to find a job at the time, as in Beaumont, TX the market was flooded. I was able to get a job working for the local Toyota dealer finally, and it was uphill from there. I worked for multiple car lines for a total of 15 years and then left the industry to take a position with an Oil and Gas company as a maintenance tech. My training and experience have propelled me within this company, all the way to the corporate office and am currently a business analyst in the Maintenance and Reliability group.
A much better position than I could have achieved without my training that stimulated my thought process and spurred me to be a successful technician. I left the auto industry with 4 Master level awards from Toyota, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, and finally BMW.
The abilities I developed based on the UTI training is has placed me in a position that I am in demand by all the company field personnel for help with their issues on a daily basis.I have recently decided to go back to school to achieve a bachelor's degree and found that the associate's degree from UTI is not suitable for transfer of any credits to a traditional university, but I would not trade anything for the experience I had while there.
